Q: How will I know if you are the right therapist for me?

A: Just like with any relationship, while it takes time to build, your gut instinct will take you far. Most people know whether a therapist is a right fit from an intuitive sense within the first two sessions. During our intake, I discuss this process and welcome feedback so that we can discuss what resources I can provide, if you want to explore further. You’ll know you’ve found the right therapist when you feel listened to, heard and seen.

Q: What’s your background in?

A: I provide counseling for individual adults, children and adolescents in my Lakewood, CO office. My background is in working with anxiety and stress, depression, PTSD, life change, people-pleasing, self-worth, life transitions, identity affirmation, gender affirmation, perfectionism, and cultural transition.

Q: How will I know if therapy is working? What can I expect?

A: It is normal to have a number of questions come up once you have chosen to work with a therapist. A lot of people feel apprehensive about the beginning of the process and that is totally normal. Remember, you guide the process and have the choice of how we focus time, intention and the therapeutic process. If you want or need space to tell your story, we can begin there. If you need concrete goals in place and want to establish focuses for each session, we can take this approach. You guide the journey and you are the expert of your story, but I am happy to hold space and appreciate the opportunity to help navigate you towards the progress that you seek. I will offer insights and suggestions throughout our process but I will never tell you what to do. You can expect to be respected, listened to each session and to have the space each session to provide feedback so that we can make the most of your time.

Q: What can I expect the first session?

A: The initial session is when we will start to discuss your story, your initial goals and what long-lasting change would feel like. An important focus of first session is also making the choice if we are a good match. Do I seem like someone you can trust and who you could build a therapeutic relationship with? We can begin to talk about some goals and navigate what getting there would look like this first session as well.

Q: How long do appointments last?

A: Appointments are 50 minutes, This is the standard length of a counseling session. I do generally provide 55 minute sessions, with the last few minutes being for closure, discussing upcoming highlights. If you are interested in a longer session, please contact me regarding availability and pricing. I’d be happy to discuss this option—which can be beneficial for allowing more time and space for therapeutic work.

Q: Can we meet virtually? Do you provide online and phone counseling?
A:  I am happy to accommodate in person sessions for individuals who prefer in-person support and also offer virtual and phone sessions as well. I continue to take extensive precautions to follow safety guidelines and provide a safe office environment for all.

Q: How often will we meet?

A:  To begin, we will meet once a week. I find it’s important to gain some momentum when we begin our work and establish your goals. As you feel ready and have maintained progress, we can discuss if bi-monthly sessions, or meeting less frequently is the best fit for you.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: I accept United Healthcare, Aetna, Anthem, Cigna and Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  I can also discuss sliding scale options with a limited basis of clientele but these slots are currently full.  I will collect payment in full from you at the time of service. If you want to submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement, I can provide receipt or submit a claim on your behalf to help facilitate any reimbursement you may be entitled to.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: I require 24 hours notice of cancellation or you will need to pay for the appointment. Exceptions will be made in the case of an emergency. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.

Q: What theoretical approach do you use in session?

A: I take an eclectic approach that is always person-centered, adaptable and clinically minded.  I find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques are the techniques I am most aligned with and that are most beneficial in my therapeutic work.
