Though self-criticism might be a common, research worldwide suggests that self-criticism is detrimental to our mental and physical health. Our inner critic can lead us to generate personal stress and create perceived rejections and moreover, it can derail our social environment. When negative mental landscapes create an environment that won’t foster inner growth, incorporating mantras or practices in moments of distress or struggle, can promote our inner healing and foster space for deeper personal trust, and ultimately, greater trust with our surroundings as well. Here are 5 mantras for self-compassion and inner healing to adapt and use, whenever you want or need affirmation of all that you are so that self-doubt, criticism and shame don’t derail you from your inner resiliency, strength and perseverance.

1.

I did the best that I could at the time, with what I knew then. I don’t deserve to feel shame for that. Now that I know better, I do better. I deserve to forgive myself.

2.

I deserve to be present every day so that I can appreciate it for the gift that it is. I deserve to be present and to use all my lessons as strengths moving forward.

3.

It is okay that this is hard. I am doing my best. I am human and the way I move through the hard moment remind me that I am strong.

4.

It’s okay to ask for what I need. It’s okay not to be okay. I will let my body feel what it feels, honor my needs and ask for what I need to kindle my own light.

5.

I am enough, here—right now, as I am. I am part of everything and will honor myself. Shame does not serve me. Self-compassion does.

Stay well, wonderful and weird!
